An overseas order needs more than a buyer’s signature

Exporters should document the goods, buyer, delivery terms, payment mechanism and currency before seeking crowdfunding. A profitable order can still strain liquidity when production and freight must be paid well before settlement. Islamic financing should identify the purchase or commercial arrangement being supported, with appropriate screening of the goods and counterparties. Check whether the proposed financier can support the relevant jurisdictions and transaction rather than assuming that an online platform operates everywhere.

Assess the period between shipment and cleared payment

Consider customs delays, quality disputes, buyer insolvency and currency movements in the cash forecast. Explain the role of any documentary credit, credit protection or guarantee without treating those instruments as eliminating all risk. Investors need to know whether receivables have already been assigned and what recourse remains against the exporter. Match payment obligations to a prudent settlement timetable, including a delay scenario that leaves sufficient cash to continue ordinary operations.
