Assess the transaction rather than its name
Crowdfunding is a method of collecting contributions, so its religious assessment depends on the underlying activity and agreement. A charitable gift, a sale, a lease and an equity subscription have different requirements. Check the project's purpose, prohibited revenue, interest exposure, uncertainty and contractual rights. An Islamic label on a website does not itself establish a transaction's permissibility.
Ask which arrangement the Sharia review covers
A qualified review should explain the specific structure and any conditions that must remain satisfied during the project. For example, a property model and an SME financing model require different evidence. Read the reasoning and contract together, then seek appropriate religious guidance where the structure is unclear. This guide explains questions to investigate and does not issue a fatwa on individual offers.
